Eight Causes of Liver Cirrhosis

Long-term alcohol consumption is the main cause of liver cirrhosis in Europe. While in other countries, most liver cirrhosis is caused by virus hepatitis. The following are eight causes of liver cirrhosis:

1. Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. According to clinical statistic, about 50% patients with hepatitis B and C can finally progress to liver cirrhosis. And it needs just a few months. Besides, hepatitis C is more likely to progress to liver cirrhosis than hepatitis B.
2. Alcohol. In Europe, alcoholic liver cirrhosis account for more than half of patients with liver cirrhosis. What’s more, in recent year, the alcoholic liver cirrhosis formation rate also had the obvious trend of escalation in China and Japan.
3. Toxin & Drug side effects. Long-term exposure of chemical toxin and long-term medication can lead to hepatocyte necrosis and bile accumulation which can finally progress to liver cirrhosis.
4. Metabolic cirrhosis. Metabolic disorder leads to harmful substance accumulation in liver.
5. Hepatic veno-occlusive. When cardiac function is in a long-term low speed condition, more blood is stored in liver. In that case, there is not enough oxygen in liver and the increase of necrotic fibrous tissue can lead to liver cirrhosis.
6. Biliary Cirrhosis. Bile accumulation in liver or bile duct obstruction can leads to oxygen-starved liver cells.the increase of necrotic fibrous tissue can lead to liver cirrhosis.
7. Malnutrition. Malnutrition can lead to the decrease of liver cell enzyme which can make fat accumulated in liver and develop fatty liver. Fatty liver is the precursor of liver cirrhosis.
8. Parasitic cirrhosis. Longstanding schistosome infection can lead to liver cirrhosis.
